When the Black Death enters England in June of 1348, Lady Anne decides to quarantine her estate of Develish, including two hundred bonded serfs she must bring inside the walls. But with this sudden overturning of the accepted social order, where serfs exist only to serve their lords, conflicts soon arise and a dreadful event threatens the safety of everyone inside the walls.
