Recently widowed Munir Khan visits Delhi, the city of his forbears, for the first time. While sitting in the bar of the Delhi Recreational Club, he meets an attractive woman. Despite their differences--Munir is a westernized agnostic of Muslim origin; Mohini, a modern Hindu woman, Mohini agrees to show Munir around the city, and an inexplicable attraction begins. Meanwhile, constantly lurking at Munir's Club is the menacing and foreboding presence of a fanatical Hindu nationalist group that at times finds outlet in senseless violence.
