Summary: January 1937. When Charlotte Frayne's boss, Mr. Gilmore, offers refuge to a relative in immediate danger, she is drawn into a risky international conspiracy. Stephen, a German refugee, has knowledge that could alter the course of a nation still recovering from the destruction of the War to End All Wars. However, Stephen is being pursued by strong forces that will stop at nothing to prevent his intelligence from ever coming to light. In the meantime, Charlotte's estranged mother makes a comeback and asks for assistance in locating a child she gave up at birth twenty years prior. Charlotte decides to look into the matter despite her conflicted emotions, unaware that the two cases will end up having unexpected connections. As Christmas approaches, Charlotte's beau Hilliard Taylor and his colleagues are at odds over the holiday concert at the Paradise Cafe. It's impossible to predict whether the show will finish in good tidings or tyranny with her adored granddad in the mix.
